The best way to spend a day…

Great day of Salt therapy

There was a lot of planning an talkin about when we could get this trip in. Special thanks to the Salt Mafia crew for makin this a day for the books!

It started at 0’dark thirty… of course alarms didnt co off on time. So the mad dash began….

We got to the harbor, and saw the line up and it went for miles….. DOH!!!! looks like we werent the only ones that got the call….LOL

So we shuttled our gear to the boat (Salt Mafia) . where capt Jason and his mate Aaron were waitin and raring to go!!! So we quickly made introductions and discussed the obligatory safety brief, the plan and then got underway. Now I have fished albacore in the past but never here in Oregon. SO MYself and my fishin Bro Matt talked story plans, And settled in for the 50 mile trek… Aka nap Time …LOL

The ocean was glassy and smooth ridin… we make some serious time in the Salt Mafia 2! then we started seeing jumpers… and free swimmers.. WE reached the tuna grounds!!!! birds, free jumpers, the anglers dream….. we quickly assembled the arsenal for deployment.

We set out the pattern and no sooner than we got 4 lines in the water…… BAM… BAM…BAM…. BAM….. “HOOK UP” Four rods in and 4 tuna on… let the rodeo begin… The tuna shuffle was fast and furious… and of course FUN!!!!

We worked all 4 sticks in (even though they like left handed reels in here) Not sure what the attraction is for such things??? but hey FISH ON.. and turn the handle… Matt and I still got it done.

From there is was lights out… fish on in 1’s and 2’s … we even hooked up on the Big Hammer swimbaits (one of our Sponsors) . IT was the type of day dreams are made of!!! Quality fish, lots of action (sore arms from the backwards reels) but we keep after it until we loaded up the fish holds.

I was sportin the “FWS” wind breaker to honor those that taught me the ropes and those that have passed on. The ancestors, and departed presence was felt through the day. the FWS crew were the mentors and family that shared the knowledge and fished with reckless abandon every opportunity we could. And had the pleasure of passing on some of that knowledge to new fishing buddy Matt that hadn’t had the chance to taste the salt, and hear the reels singin.

When it was all said and done…. we boated 23 Albecore the smallest was in the 12 lb class… and we were back to the barn by noon!
